How it connects, step by step
- YDM505S on XLR into a mono channel of the MG12XU. Engage the high-pass filter and the one-knob compressor for a steady vocal.
- Two XLR cables from the mixer's stereo out (left and right) into the sub's two combo inputs.
- XLR from each of the sub's link outputs to a YXL12P top. Set the tops to sub mode so they hand the low end to the sub. Two tops for stereo; each link output carries only its own side, left or right.
- On the EKX-15SP, pick the Live mode and a low-pass of 80, 100, 120 or 150 Hz; input 1 passes to link output 1 and input 2 to output 2. Cardioid Control is for two or more subs.
- Sub on the floor. Put one YXL12P on a speaker pole in the sub's pole mount and the other on a speaker stand, both above the crowd. We do not stock poles or stands.
- USB from the mixer to a laptop records the whole night in Cubase AI, or plays walk-in music back through the same cable. On Windows, install the Yamaha Steinberg USB Driver first; a Mac needs none.
- Share it: in Cubase AI, which comes with the mixer, File > Export > Audio Mixdown turns the recording into a WAV or MP3 file to send to the band.
